Creating spaces for South Asian women in the UK to connect, learn and share their experiences

We’re South Asian Sisters Speak – a grassroots community organisation that helps South Asian women in the UK find belonging and community so they feel empowered to be their whole selves.

As South Asian women in the UK, many of us didn’t have spaces to connect with like-minded women to discuss our experiences and the issues we face openly in a nuanced, culturally sensitive environment.

SASS brings South Asian women of all backgrounds together to speak about our experiences, build community and learn skills that help us look to the future with hope.

Our work covers three main areas to help us share our experiences and find belonging.

1

Events and workshops. From mental health to relationships, we run a variety of events for our community. These range from panels with South Asian women sharing their stories and expertise, to more intimate workshops led by mental health professionals to provide practical advice to empower our community.

2

Brown Girls’ Book Club. Around 25 of us get together every other month to celebrate and discuss literature written by South Asian women. Each session brings us different perspectives, food for thought – and a lot of laughs!

3

Creative projects. South Asian women are often expected to be submissive and quiet. We want to encourage our community to raise their voices through creative expression through special projects and on our platforms.
